You’ve booked the venue, chosen your suppliers, worked out the timings and spent months deciding exactly how you want your wedding day to look. Then comes a question that often doesn’t occur to couples until much closer to the wedding.Who is actually going to make sure all of that happens on the day?Who checks that your suppliers know where they’re going? Who makes sure your personal items are where you wanted them? Who gets everyone into position before the ceremony? And who deals with the little questions that inevitably come up while you’re getting ready or enjoying your wedding? That’s where a day-of wedding coordinator can come in.
What Does a Day-of Wedding Coordinator Actually Do?
A day-of wedding coordinator takes the plans you’ve already made and helps put them into practice. They’re not there to redesign your wedding or take over from you. You’ve already done the planning.Instead, they become the person who knows what you’ve arranged, what should be happening and who needs to be where. That can include liaising with suppliers, checking setup, keeping an eye on timings, helping organise the wedding party and dealing with practical questions so they don’t have to come to you or your family. And importantly, you don’t necessarily need someone for the entire day.
Do I Need a Wedding Coordinator If My Venue Already Has One?
This is a very fair question.I spent many years working on the hotel side of weddings, including as a hotel General Manager, so I know how much work venue wedding coordinators and hotel teams do.A good venue team is invaluable. But a venue coordinator and an independent wedding day coordinator have different roles. The venue team looks after the elements of your wedding that the venue is responsible for. An independent coordinator works directly for you and can look at the wider picture. For example, you may need someone at a church before you arrive, someone overseeing external suppliers setting up at another location, or simply someone who already knows your plans and can deal with questions on your behalf. For some weddings, the venue team will be all the support you need. For others, having somebody independent looking after your plans can make a real difference.
Do I Need a Coordinator for a Church Wedding?
You may not need someone to coordinate your entire wedding day but would love to have somebody at the church before you arrive. This can be particularly useful when several people are involved in the ceremony.I can arrive beforehand to check that everything you’ve arranged is in place, liaise with the relevant people at the church, check flowers and other ceremony details, help with seating where required and organise the wedding party before the entrance. Then, when the bridal party and bride arrive, there is someone there to guide everyone and let them know when it’s time to walk up the aisle. It means that responsibility doesn’t automatically fall to a parent, bridesmaid, groomsman or another guest.
What About Setting Up the Wedding Venue?
This is another time when couples can find themselves trying to be in two places at once.Perhaps you have your own signs, photographs, table plan, memory items or other personal touches going into the venue.Maybe you have a florist and décor supplier arriving at different times. You’ve explained where everything should go, but while it’s all happening, you’re somewhere else getting ready.Venue Setup Coordination means I can be there during that period to liaise with suppliers, oversee your personal items being put in place and check that the setup reflects what you arranged. If that’s all the help you need, I can finish once everything is ready and you arrive.
Do I Need Someone for the Whole Wedding Day?
No.This is one of the reasons I decided to offer different levels of wedding day coordination. Some weddings have lots of moving parts and benefit from more extensive support. Others don’t.You might only want somebody there for three or four hours, perhaps from when you arrive at your reception venue until your guests are called for dinner. You might only want someone overseeing the morning setup. You might need help at the church and nowhere else.Or you may want more comprehensive support throughout the day. There’s little point paying for hours of coordination you don’t actually need.
When Might I Not Need a Day-of Wedding Coordinator?
Not every wedding needs one.If you’re getting married and celebrating in the same venue, your setup is straightforward, your venue has an experienced wedding team and there are relatively few external suppliers or additional elements to coordinate, you may already have everything covered.Equally, you may have a family member or friend who genuinely wants to take responsibility for certain things. The question I’d ask is whether you’re comfortable with the people involved dealing with those jobs on the day.If you are, great. If you’re already wondering who will check everything, answer supplier questions, organise people or make sure your plans have actually happened, some additional coordination may be worth considering.
Why I’ve Added Wedding Day Coordination to Timeless Ceremonies
Although this is a new service from Timeless Ceremonies, wedding coordination itself certainly isn’t new to me.Before becoming a Wedding Celebrant and Registered Solemniser, I spent more than 30 years working in hospitality, including many years working directly with weddings and as a hotel General Manager.I’ve seen wedding days from the venue side and now from the ceremony side.I know what happens behind the scenes. I know the questions that tend to come up, where delays can happen and which small details can become someone else’s problem when nobody knows who is responsible for them.I also know when there’s no need to interfere. If everything is running exactly as it should, I’m very happy for it to keep doing so.
Wedding Day Coordination That Fits Your Wedding
You don’t need to hand your wedding over to somebody else. And you don’t necessarily need a full wedding planner.Sometimes you simply need an experienced person to take responsibility for a particular part of the day so you don’t have to.I’m based in Co. Louth and offer Wedding Day Coordination alongside my work as a Wedding Celebrant and Registered Solemniser, with services available across Ireland and Northern Ireland.Whether you need help with your church or ceremony arrival, venue setup, a few hours at your reception or more comprehensive wedding day support, we can look at what you’ve planned and work out what would actually be useful.Whether you need help with your church or ceremony arrival, venue setup, a few hours at your reception or more comprehensive wedding day support, we can look at what you’ve planned and work out what would actually be useful. You can explore my Wedding Day Coordination options, or get in touch and tell me a little about what you have planned.

Do I Need a Day-of Wedding Coordinator in Ireland?

County Meath is very familiar territory for me. I grew up in Kells, worked in hotels in Navan, got married at Boyne Hill House and, over the years, I’ve attended family weddings, trained and conducted wedding ceremonies in venues right across the county. So rather than putting together a list of wedding venues simply because they happen to be in Meath, I thought I’d share some of the venues I actually know. Some I know as a celebrant and solemniser. Some I know from my years working in hospitality. And a few have a much more personal connection. If you’re considering getting married in County Meath, here are some venues worth having a look at.
Boyne Hill House Estate, Navan
I have to start with Boyne Hill House because this one is particularly special to me. It’s where I got married myself.I’ve since returned in a completely different role to conduct wedding ceremonies, so I’ve now experienced Boyne Hill from both sides.Couples have two very different options for the ceremony itself. The Conservatory is a lovely light-filled indoor space with exposed stone walls, while the Secret Garden is a beautiful outdoor option. Tucked away within the estate, it’s a Victorian walled garden with a waterfall, bridge and orchard. The estate itself extends to 38 acres, with gardens and parkland giving you plenty of options for photographs without having to leave the venue.Having your ceremony and reception in the same place also makes things very easy for everyone. Once your guests arrive, they can settle in and enjoy the day without travelling between different locations. It will probably always feel a little different to me walking into Boyne Hill because I can still remember being the bride there myself.
Ballymagarvey Village, Balrath
Ballymagarvey Village is one of those Meath wedding venues that many couples already have on their list when they start looking. For ceremonies, there are both indoor and outdoor options. The Mill Loft is a restored corn and flax mill with exposed beams, stone walls and original windows, while Gwenllian’s Garden offers an outdoor ceremony setting. It’s a good option for couples who like the idea of having everything in one place and want a dedicated wedding venue rather than a traditional hotel setting.
Clonabreany House, Crossakiel
I know Clonabreany from conducting ceremonies there, and it’s a venue that gives couples two very different options for the ceremony itself. The Orchard Room looks out towards Sliabh na Caillighe and the Loughcrew Cairns and is a dedicated indoor ceremony space surrounded by the estate’s meadows and woodland. If you’d prefer to get married outdoors, ceremonies can also take place in Tunnel Wood. There’s extensive accommodation on site too, which is particularly handy when you have family and friends travelling. For me, one of the big advantages of a venue like Clonabreany is that once everyone arrives for the ceremony, they’re there for the day. There’s no need to move a large group of people from one location to another.
Bellinter House, Navan
Bellinter House is another venue where I’ve conducted a wedding ceremony. It’s an 18th-century Georgian house set on more than 12 acres near Navan. Couples can choose an indoor ceremony in the Nunnery Suite or, weather permitting, an outdoor ceremony beneath the large Weeping Beech Tree on the front lawn. The house has a relaxed feel to it, and the different rooms and grounds give couples plenty of options throughout the day. It’s also one of those venues where having the ceremony and celebrations in the same place makes the day very straightforward for everyone.
The Station House Hotel, Kilmessan
The Station House Hotel in Kilmessan is another lovely option for couples looking for something a little different from a traditional hotel wedding.Originally a railway station, the venue still has much of that character, with the old station buildings and gardens forming part of the setting today. One of the standout features for weddings is the Turntable, an outdoor ceremony space surrounded by the gardens. There are also indoor options, so there’s always a Plan B if the Irish weather has other ideas. With accommodation, the ceremony and the celebrations all in the one place, it’s another venue where guests can arrive and settle in for the day.
Headfort Arms Hotel, Kells
This one brings me right back home.I grew up in Kells, so the Headfort Arms has been part of the town for as long as I can remember. One of the things that makes it particularly interesting for couples is the choice of ceremony settings. You can have an outdoor ceremony in the gardens, an indoor ceremony in the hotel, or use the Red Chapel, a restored former convent chapel just across the street.I particularly like the Red Chapel option. You get a separate setting for the ceremony itself and then it’s only a very short walk across the road to the hotel for the rest of the celebrations. For anyone with connections to Kells or North Meath, it’s certainly one to consider.
Bettystown House, Bettystown
Bettystown House is quite different from some of the larger venues on this list.It specialises in smaller, more intimate weddings, with exclusive use of the house and grounds, accommodation and dining all on site. Its location near the Meath coast also makes it a little different from many of the country house venues further inland.I’ll be conducting a wedding here in April, so I’m looking forward to getting to know the venue properly from the celebrant side too.For couples planning a smaller wedding who don’t want their day swallowed up by a large hotel or function room, Bettystown House is definitely worth a look.
Tankardstown House, near Slane
Tankardstown House has a family connection for me because my cousin got married there, so this is one I’ve experienced as a wedding guest.Couples having their ceremony on site can choose between the Orangery or, weather permitting, the Walled Garden. The estate has that country house feel, with the ceremony, reception and accommodation all in one location. It’s a very different experience attending a wedding as a guest rather than working at one, and it gave me the opportunity to see how the whole day flowed from that side.
Trim Castle Hotel, Trim
Trim Castle Hotel is another venue with a family connection for me. My sister got married there. Its location is probably the first thing you notice. The hotel sits directly opposite Trim Castle, so you have one of Meath’s best-known landmarks right outside. There are several options for the ceremony itself, including indoor ceremony spaces and the rooftop garden terrace overlooking the castle. It’s a very different setting from the country house venues on this list and works particularly well for couples who prefer a hotel wedding while still wanting plenty of character around them.
The Millhouse, Slane
The Millhouse has a connection to the very beginning of my own celebrant career.I shadowed Lorraine McCarthy there while I was training, so it was one of the venues where I got to watch an experienced celebrant conduct a ceremony before I started conducting my own.The ceremony room is in the Old Mill, an original Georgian industrial space with exposed brick, open beams and high ceilings. There are also outdoor ceremony options in the orchard and on the riverside lawn. It’s certainly not a standard hotel ceremony room, which is part of its appeal.
Newgrange Hotel, Navan
I know the Newgrange Hotel from a completely different part of my working life because I worked there during my years in hospitality.Located right in the centre of Navan, it offers both larger and more intimate wedding options, as well as spaces for the ceremony itself.Having worked there gives me a very different connection to the Newgrange than the venues I now visit as a celebrant. I know what goes on behind the scenes in a busy wedding hotel and how much work is involved in getting everything ready before the first guest walks through the door.
Ardboyne Hotel, Navan
The Ardboyne is another Navan hotel I know from my hospitality days, having worked there too.Couples can have their ceremony indoors or, weather permitting, outside in the hotel gardens.Like the Newgrange, this is a venue I knew long before I became a celebrant. Going back into hotels now in my current role always feels a little different after spending so many years working on the other side of weddings.
Getting Legally Married in County Meath
If you choose to have your legal wedding ceremony at your venue, you don’t need to have a separate civil ceremony with an HSE registrar simply because you’re getting married in a hotel or wedding venue. As a registered solemniser, I can conduct your legal wedding ceremony at your chosen venue, provided the legal requirements for your marriage are met. You’ll still need to complete the required marriage notification process and obtain your Marriage Registration Form before the wedding. I’ve explained the full process step by step in my Guide to Getting Legally Married in Ireland. On the day, I conduct your ceremony and complete the relevant section of the Marriage Registration Form with you and your witnesses. You then return it to the Civil Registration Service after your wedding so your marriage can be registered.Your ceremony can include personal vows, readings, music and symbolic elements such as a unity candle, handfasting, sand blending or ring warming. If you’re wondering what you can include in your ceremony, my Designing Your Wedding Ceremony guide takes you through the different parts of the ceremony and the choices you can make.Your legal wedding ceremony can still be completely personal to you and feel like an important part of your wedding day, rather than something you simply have to get through for the legalities.
Planning a Wedding in County Meath?
Meath has a huge variety of wedding venues, and these are only some of the ones I know personally.Having grown up in Kells, worked in Navan and got married in Meath myself, it’s an area I know particularly well. These days I get to experience it from a completely different perspective, standing at the top of the aisle with couples as they get married. If you’re planning your wedding in County Meath and would like to have your legal wedding ceremony at your venue, get in touch.I’m always happy to have a chat about your plans, check whether I’m available for your date and explain how the ceremony and legal side of things work.

Having recently conducted an outdoor wedding ceremony there myself, I particularly liked how naturally the ceremony fitted into the surroundings — it felt private without feeling overly formal.
6. Fairways Hotel, Dundalk
The Venue: Fairways Hotel is a contemporary hotel on the outskirts of Dundalk, offering a modern alternative to some of Louth’s more traditional castle and country-house venues. Wedding Venues in County Louth: 7 Beautiful Places to Consider

bride and groom during wedding sand ceremony

There are lots of ways to add a symbolic element to your wedding ceremony, and the right one will depend on what suits you as a couple. You might choose a handfasting, involve your children in a sand ceremony, pass your rings around your guests for a ring warming, or create a time capsule to open years after your wedding. You certainly don’t need to include a ritual in your ceremony, but if there’s one that means something to you, it can be a lovely way to involve family or add something a little different. Here are six symbolic wedding rituals you might like to consider.
 1. The Handfasting Ceremony
What is Handfasting?Handfasting involves placing cords or ribbons around your joined hands during the ceremony. It has a long history and today is a popular symbolic addition to wedding ceremonies, particularly for couples who would like to include a nod to Irish or Celtic tradition. The cords can be placed by me as your celebrant, or you can involve family members or friends by inviting them to place individual cords.Ways to Make It Your Own:Choose Your Cords: You can use colours that mean something to you, ribbons that match your wedding colours, or pieces of fabric with a family connection.Involve Someone Important: Parents, children, siblings or friends can each place a cord, giving them a small part in the ceremony.Keep It Simple: Handfasting doesn't need a lengthy explanation or lots of different meanings attached to every cord. It can simply be a lovely symbolic moment before you continue with the ceremony.
2. The Loving Cup or Quaich Ceremony
What is a Quaich Ceremony?A Quaich is a traditional Scottish two-handled drinking cup. During the ceremony, you both drink from the same cup, making it a simple symbolic way of marking the life you’re choosing to share together. You can use whisky, wine or another drink of your choice — it certainly doesn’t have to be alcohol.Ways to Make It Your Own:Choose Your Drink: Use something you both enjoy or a drink that has a particular connection to you as a couple.Choose Your Quaich: You might buy one especially for your wedding, use one that already belongs to your family, or have one engraved with your names and wedding date.Involve Family: If you’d like to involve parents or other family members, they could pour the drink into the Quaich before you share it.
3. The Sand Blending Ceremony
What is a Sand Blending Ceremony?A sand blending ceremony involves each of you pouring different coloured sand into one container, creating layers as the sands come together. It can work particularly well if you’d like to involve children in your ceremony, as each child can have their own colour of sand and take part in creating the finished piece with you.Ways to Make It Your Own:Choose Your Colours: You can choose colours you simply like, match them to your wedding colours, or choose different colours for each person taking part.Involve Your Children: Give each child their own container of sand and invite them to add it during the ceremony. This can be a lovely way of including them without putting them under pressure to speak or read anything.Keep It Afterwards: Choose a larger container that you’ll be happy to keep at home after the wedding. The finished sand becomes a little reminder of the ceremony rather than something that disappears once the day is over.
4. The Time Capsule Ceremony
What is a Time Capsule Ceremony? Before your wedding, you can each write a letter to the other to be placed into a box during the ceremony. You might also include photographs, small keepsakes or anything else you’d like to look back on in years to come. The box is then kept somewhere safe and opened on an anniversary you choose together.Ways to Make It Your Own:Write to Each Other: Your letters could be about why you’re marrying each other, memories from your relationship or what you hope life will look like when you eventually open the box.Add a Few Keepsakes: Include a photograph, a copy of your vows, something from your wedding day or another small item that means something to you both.Choose When to Open It: Decide beforehand whether you’ll open it on your first, fifth, tenth anniversary — or another date that has significance for you.
5. The Ring Warming
What is a Ring Warming?A ring warming is a simple way to involve your guests in the ceremony. Your wedding rings are passed among them before the ring exchange, giving each person a moment to hold them and quietly make a wish or think a good thought for you both.By the time the rings come back to you, they’ve quite literally passed through the hands of the people you chose to have there with you.Ways to Make It Your Own:Choose How the Rings Travel: The rings can be tied securely to a ribbon, placed in a small pouch or attached to a ring dish or holder while they’re being passed around.Choose Who Takes Part: It doesn’t necessarily have to involve every guest. If you have a larger wedding, you could keep it to immediate family or a particular group of people.Time It Carefully: The rings can make their way around during another part of the ceremony so the ritual doesn’t interrupt the flow — and I’ll make sure they find their way back to us before we actually need them!
6. A Shot Before We Tie the Knot
What is it?Not every addition to your ceremony has to be serious or traditional. A “Shot Before We Tie the Knot” is a fun way to involve your guests just before you get married.Your guests are given a small shot and, at the right point in the ceremony, everyone raises their glass and takes it together before you move on to the legal vows and the rest of the ceremony.Ways to Make It Your Own:Choose the Moment: It can happen just before the legal part of the ceremony or at another point that works naturally within the ceremony.Include Everyone: Have a non-alcoholic option available too, so nobody feels they have to drink alcohol to take part.Keep It Quick: It doesn't need a big explanation or elaborate setup. A few words, glasses up, everyone takes the shot — and on we go.
Which Wedding Ritual Is Right for You?
You don’t need to include a symbolic ritual in your wedding ceremony, but if there’s one you genuinely like, we can find a way to include it without it feeling forced. You might choose something traditional like handfasting or a Quaich, involve your children in a sand blending ceremony, include your guests with a ring warming, or simply have a bit of fun with a Shot Before We Tie the Knot. And if none of them appeal to you, that’s absolutely fine too. Your ceremony doesn’t need extra elements just for the sake of having them.See more ideas on my Symbolic Wedding Rituals & Ceremony Enhancements page →If you’d like to chat about your wedding ceremony and what you might include, get in touch.

6 Symbolic Wedding Rituals to Personalise Your Ceremony

Writing your own wedding vows can feel surprisingly difficult. You know exactly how you feel about the person standing beside you, but putting it into words is another matter altogether. You might be wondering where to start, how long your vows should be, whether they should be funny or serious, or how to make them sound natural rather than like something you found online. The good news is that your vows don't need to be beautifully written. They just need to sound like you.
 Why Personal Vows Matter
Personal vows give you the chance to say something to your partner that could only have come from you. They don’t need to tell your entire story or be particularly clever or romantic. Sometimes the simplest words — what you love about them, what you value in your relationship and what you want to promise them — are the ones that mean the most. And remember, personal vows are separate from the legal declarations required during a legal wedding ceremony. You can have both.
 Step One: Start With Reflection
Before you start trying to write your vows, spend a few minutes thinking about your relationship and jotting down whatever comes to mind. You could think about:What did you first notice or love about them? What do you admire most about them? What makes the two of you work well together? What are the little things they do that you appreciate? What are you looking forward to in your future together? Don’t worry about making any of it sound polished at this stage. A few words or short notes are enough — you’re simply giving yourself something to work with.
Step Two: Choose the Tone That Feels Natural
Your vows don’t need to sound poetic or formal. In fact, they’ll usually sound better if you write them the way you would naturally speak to your partner.Think about what feels comfortable for you. Your vows might be sincere, funny, understated, romantic — or a mixture of all of those. For example:Sincere: “I love how you’re always there when I need you, even when I don’t ask.”Playful: “I promise I’ll always share my chips with you — although I’m making no promises about dessert.”Simple: “I’m so glad I get to do life with you.”You don’t need to choose a particular style. If it sounds like something you would actually say to your partner, you’re on the right track.
Step Three: Add Promises That Matter
At the heart of your vows are the promises you want to make to each other. They don’t have to be grand promises. In fact, the ones that are specific to your relationship will often feel much more natural. You might promise to support each other when things are difficult, to keep making time for each other, or to continue doing some of the little things that have become part of your life together. And there’s room for humour too:“I promise to keep laughing with you, even when things don’t quite go to plan.”“I promise to empty the dishwasher without being asked.”“I promise to laugh at your jokes — even the ones I’ve heard a hundred times.”Choose promises that you can genuinely imagine yourself saying to your partner. That’s what will make them personal.
Step Four: Keep It Concise
You don’t need pages of vows to say something meaningful. For most people, around one to two minutes is plenty. If you’re both writing personal vows, it’s worth agreeing roughly how long they’ll be beforehand. You don’t need to know what the other person is writing, but it avoids one of you arriving with six lines while the other has written three pages 😂Once you’ve written them, read your vows out loud. You’ll quickly notice anything that feels awkward to say, too formal, or simply not like you.
Step Five: Practise - but Don’t Memorise
Read your vows out loud a few times before the wedding. Not because you need to memorise them, but because it helps you get comfortable with the words and spot anything that doesn’t sound natural when you say it.On the day, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with reading your vows. In fact, I’d much rather you had them in front of you than spent the whole time worrying about remembering what comes next. And if you’re nervous, don’t worry about pauses, stumbling over a word or getting emotional. Nobody is expecting a polished performance.I’ll be right there with you too, so there’s no need to rush.
A Final Thought
The best personal vows aren’t necessarily the most beautifully written ones. They’re the ones that sound like the person saying them.Don’t worry about trying to impress your guests or finding the perfect words. You’re speaking to your partner, not the room.If your vows make them smile, laugh, cry or simply recognise the two of you in what you’ve written, you’ve done exactly what you needed to do.
 Need a Little Help?
If you’re writing your own vows as part of your ceremony with me, you don’t have to figure it all out by yourself.I’ll give you guidance and prompts to help you get started, and if you’re unsure about what you’ve written, you can send your vows to me beforehand and I can help you with them. They’ll still be your words — I’ll just help you get them to a point where you’re happy saying them on the day.Book a free consultation and let’s bring your love story to life, word by word.

If you’re deciding between a legal wedding ceremony and a symbolic ceremony, the main difference is simple: a legal ceremony creates a legally recognised marriage, while a symbolic ceremony does not.A symbolic ceremony can still include many of the elements you would associate with a wedding ceremony — vows, rings, readings, music and symbolic rituals — but without the legal declarations and paperwork required to legally marry. Here’s what each option means and why a couple might choose one, the other, or even both.
What Is a Legal Ceremony?
A legal wedding ceremony is one that meets the legal requirements for marriage in Ireland and is conducted by someone listed on the official Register of Solemnisers. Before the wedding, you must give at least three months’ notice of your intention to marry and complete the marriage notification process. You’ll then receive your Marriage Registration Form (MRF), which is the legal document used to register your marriage. On your wedding day, there are certain legal declarations that must form part of the ceremony. You’ll also need two witnesses aged 18 or over, and the MRF will be signed as part of the legal process. If you’re having a religious or secular ceremony, the completed MRF must be returned to a Civil Registration Service within one month so your marriage can be registered. For the full process, read my step-by-step guide to getting legally married in Ireland
 What Is a Symbolic Ceremony?
A symbolic ceremony is a wedding ceremony without the legal marriage requirements or paperwork. It can include many of the same elements as a legal wedding ceremony, such as personal vows, exchanging rings, readings, music and symbolic rituals. The difference is that the ceremony itself does not create a legally recognised marriage.Couples choose symbolic ceremonies for lots of different reasons. You may already be legally married, you might be planning a celebration abroad, or you may simply want to complete the legal part separately and have your ceremony at another time or location.A symbolic ceremony also gives you more flexibility around the content and format of the ceremony because there are no legal declarations that have to be included.
Why Couples Choose Symbolic Ceremonies
There are plenty of reasons why a symbolic ceremony might suit a couple. You may have completed the legal marriage separately and want to celebrate with family and friends afterwards. You might be planning a destination wedding and dealing with the legal requirements in another country, or perhaps you simply want greater flexibility around the location, timing and content of your ceremony.Because there are no legal declarations or marriage paperwork involved in a symbolic ceremony, there is more freedom to decide how the ceremony will run and what you would like to include. You can still exchange rings and personal vows, include readings or music, and add symbolic elements such as handfasting, a unity candle or ring warming if you would like them.
Symbolic Ceremonies with Timeless Ceremonies
If you choose a symbolic ceremony, we’ll create it in much the same way as any other ceremony I conduct — starting with getting to know you both and what you would like the ceremony to include.Your ceremony can include your story, personal vows, readings, music and symbolic elements such as handfasting, a unity candle or ring warming. Or you can keep things very simple if that suits you better.I also offer symbolic destination ceremonies outside Ireland. If you’re planning your ceremony abroad, we can talk through the location, travel arrangements and exactly what you have in mind.
 Choosing Between Legal and Symbolic
Choosing between a legal and symbolic ceremony really comes down to what you need from the ceremony itself. If you want to become legally married during your ceremony, you’ll need to follow the legal marriage requirements and have the ceremony conducted by a Registered Solemniser. If the legal marriage is being dealt with separately — or you don’t need the ceremony to have legal effect — a symbolic ceremony gives you greater flexibility around how, when and where you celebrate. Some couples choose one ceremony, while others have both. There’s no right or wrong option; it depends on your plans and what works best for you.
Not Sure Which Ceremony Is Right for You?
If you’re not sure whether you need a legal or symbolic ceremony, get in touch and tell me a little about what you’re planning. As a Registered Solemniser and celebrant, I conduct both legal and symbolic ceremonies, and I can explain the difference and what each option would mean for your plans.Whether you’re getting married in Ireland or planning a symbolic ceremony abroad, we can have a chat about what would work best for you.
